My Thoughts on Downsizing

In this life, we are fed with information and message of unbridled accumulation, money, consumerism, and advertisements all through since our economy mainly thrives off of individuals buying the things they may not be in need of. We have been misled to believe that the key to leading a happy life lies within our purchases but in reality, it begins within ourselves.

Of late, there is a new trend where minimalism seems to gain traction as many people have began realizing that it makes no sense to take part in that conspicuous consumption anymore. In case you are tired of the idea, which portrays happiness as an equation of the more stuff you have, then you would want to downsize. However, before doing that, you may want to check these little known life-changing things, which will happen as you downsize.

The Tortured Souls of the City

Tortured Souls of a City

Manila is pretty much a voracious giant. If you get sucked into it, this city will eat you and spit you out unchewed and repeat. It’s a bustling city with highs and lows and a lot of things to see … positively and negatively.

Just to give you an idea …

The region around Manila (15 cities) holds a total population of estimated 22M, with a growth rate of 2.5% per year for this metropolitan area.

Being a Pinoy, a German with Filipino roots, I have grown up outside of my home country most of my life, and nowhere else have I seen the difference between the rich and the poor being more noticeable than in Manila.

Never Give Up

Life is definitely full of disappointments, ups and downs and challenges. No doubt about that. These difficult times in life can elicit strong emotions that range from feeling frustration in general to feeling like an outright failure and wanting to give up right away.

Reconnect

Reconnecting

Is there one person that you used to be close to for a very long time, and now you are just basically strangers at this point? Maybe you aren’t sure what happened exactly … things slowly drifted, and although there isn’t any bad blood, it seems like things don’t work any longer. It is just as easy for strangers to turn into best friends, as it is for best friends to turn into strangers.

About a week ago I met a friend on the way to my Salsa dance class. We hadn’t seen us for more than 15 years and in the past we were very close friends. Suddenly, relationship came to an end, sort of we slowly drifted away with our friendship until, one day, we simply lost touch. This has happened to me several times throughout my life.

It made me feel very odd, so I took some time off to think about why this happens …

Me, the Writer

Me, the Writer

I’ve always wanted to be a writer, more or less. I love to blog and elaborate things out written. Also, writing helps me to cope with things that happen to me daily, in a positive and negative way.

Nowadays, there is no specific degree or certificate that makes someone a writer, and in fact, the term ‘writer’ is something rather broad. Some many people run personal blogs or write books and poems. I think, the only important part of becoming a writer is that of putting words down on paper.

A Merry Christmas

A Merry Christmas

For most of us, Christmas Day is a day that we usually spend with our family and close friends. Often these people close to us are many. The thought of spending time together can throw us into a panic … but we forget, it is a choice that we often make.

In the year my mother passed away I spent the whole Christmas Holidays alone. I did have a couple of invitations from some of my close friends, who were thinking about me not spending Christmas Eve alone, but still I decided to stay by myself. It wasn’t necessarily the best Christmas I have ever had, but it wasn’t the worst Christmas I have ever had either.

I am a Scorpio
December 21, 2014

I am a Scorpio.

For almost 40 years I have lived it and breathed it. I have fought with the Scorpio nature’s extremes, tested the limits and have also fallen down many dark and murky abysses. I have hurt others and been hurt myself … over and over again.

I must admit … my nature is very emotional, and at times I am extremely sensitive. My parents provided me with genetics of a hard outer shell, and an inside that is vulnerable and soft, similar to my real world arthropod relatives. As a Scorpio I understand beyond what is on the surface of life and sometimes, it can be both a curse and a blessing.

I own my Thoughts

I own my Thoughts

I own my Thoughts … what does this mean and how does keeping thoughts to myself help me? A tough one, but let’s begin with asking a few questions about the matter:

When you get annoyed or angry with a situation, what is one of things you first do right off the bat? Do you text or call your friends so you can vent to them? Do you gather all your closest friends all in one place, so they can be updated at the same time?
