There is nothing more saddening than being chronically unhappy or angry. This is because it leads to an unbalanced life, with no appreciation of what exists or even a life with too much expectations. Without appreciation or gratitude to what you have already accomplished, you will never understand true fulfillment. As a matter of fact, achievement doesn’t make sense if there is absolutely no balance in your life.
In life, you’ll make a few decisions which tell the quality of your living. If you make these decisions unconsciously, you’ll end up like most people who are out of shape physically, financially stressed and also exhausted emotionally. But if you make it a priority of making these decisions consciously, you’ll absolutely change the course of life as from today.
As of now, I’m sure that there are thousands of things competing for your attention. You may focus on things that are going on as of the moment, or ideally what you want to achieve in the near future. Also, you may focus on the past.
Keep in mind that where focus goes, energy flows, and what you focus on can change your whole life.
I am sure you may think of both sides of this coin, but if you carefully examine your habitual thoughts, you should ask yourself what you dwell on most of the time. Rather than focusing on what you don’t have, and resenting those who are more successful than you, maybe you should instead acknowledge that you have something to be grateful for. For example, your health, friends, family and opportunities are all important things to be grateful and thankful for.
Creating a habit of appreciation on what you already have, is the basis of creating a whole new level of well-being emotionally. The real question however is: Do you reserve some time to be grateful with your body, heart, mind and soul? This is where true happiness and fulfillment can be found.
You should also consider a second pattern of focus which affects the quality of your life. Do you focus more on what you can control or do you focus on what you have no control over? If you focus on the first, you’ll live a stressful life. In most times, you can influence many aspects but you can’t control them all. If you adopt this pattern of focus, then your brain will have to make another decision.
To put in other words: How you feel about the life you live has nothing to do with the events in it, or whatever has or hasn’t happened to you. The quality of your life is driven by the meaning of these things.
When something that has the potential of disrupting your life such as an accident or a health issue … how do you take it? Do you think of it as the end or is it the beginning? If a person confronts you, do you take it as a insult or as a friendly coaching with the person truly caring for you? Is something really bad happening to you a punishment or a challenge to grow as an individual?
The key point here is: Your life takes on any meaning you give it and with every meaning comes a special feeling or emotion. Ideally, your life’s quality depends on your emotional view of things.
Here’s something to think of …
In this time, it is very common for people to use antidepressants because they are not feeling well with things in their lives. But, how many people do you know are on antidepressants and are still depressed? Chances are that you’ll know one or the other. Why is that? This is because drugs are meant to make individuals feel better, but no matter how much a person drugs themselves, if you keep focusing on what you’re unable to control in life and what’s missing, you’ll not find it hard to despair. If the person thinks of his life as being not worth to live for, then there is no antidepressant in the universe that can overcome this feeling.
However, if you arrive to a new meaning, a reason to live or ideally a belief that what’s happening was meant to be, then you’ll stay strong no matter what happens in your life.
If people change their habitual focus and meanings, then there is no limit whatsoever on what in life they can become. A shift of focus and a change in meaning can alter a persons biochemistry in minutes, literally. In this case, take control of your life and always keep in mind that meaning is equivalent to emotion and emotion is equivalent life. Make decisions wisely and consciously and find and emancipate meaning in whatever happens. Wealth in a deeper sense will be yours in no time.
Once you have created a meaning in your mind, it’ll create an emotion which leads to a state of making the next decision.
It’s up to you!
The things you do are shaped and influenced by your emotional state. If you’re angry, you’ll behave differently than how you would, if you felt outrageous or playful. If you wish to tweak your actions, the best way is through changing on what you focus on and ideally changing the meaning to be somehow empowering.
People behave differently. Some express anger quietly while others do it violently or loudly. Where do all these patterns come from? People model their behavior on those they love, enjoy and respect. You may often reject people who have angered or frustrated you and yet you may also find yourself following patterns that displeased you in your youth age. It’s therefore important to be aware of your patterns when you’re sad, lonely or angry, as you cannot change them if you’re not aware about them.
Now that you’re familiar with the power that comes with these decisions, it’s now time to start looking for role models. This way, you’ll have an entirely different focus and you’ll arrive at different meanings for the challenges you might be facing.
And in this way, for sure, you’ll create a positive change in your life.
