Cleaning out my Closet

I’m cleaning out my Closet

I must admit, I have a lot of respect for Eminem. His lyrics are hard and explicit at times, but honest and true to the bone. There are a couple of songs where he deals with different things. For example, in “Beautiful” he speaks about how hard, but also how important it is to be yourself. This article was heavily inspired by Eminem’s “Cleaning out my Closet” song, because in this song he raps about the struggles and hard times he went through in his life. And there were a lot of problems and setbacks.

So, I decided that this is the first Christmas/New Year’s Eve that I’ll be spending with cleaning out my own personal closet.

Increasing the Positivity in Your Life

Positivity is often stated to be the key to a happy life. However, maintaining a positive attitude grows increasingly difficult the older you get. Life isn’t always easy, and there are countless issues to deal with and obstacles to overcome. Holding down a job can be especially stressful because of having to constantly impress clients and/or supervisors. I’ve put together a few tips that helped me make my workplace a more positive place to be:

Being a Thinker

Being a Thinker

Last weekend I was on my way back from a birthday party about 70km away from where I live. It was late and I felt like calling one of my friends, that I had a lot of inspiring conversations with. We talked about various (mostly nonsense) things, but then we had a really nice talk about “thinking”. This inspired me to write this article.

First of all, I agree with the slogan from Apple: I think, it is important to “think different.” Thinking different and freely, without the bias of religion or prejudice is really important to me. That’s what our f*cking brains are there for anyway!

So, in terms of the way we think, we all fall into either the divergent or convergent category, or a combination of both of these. In your quest for fulfillment, success and joy in your life, it is essential to know what type of thinker you truly are.

Words can be Powerful

Words can be Powerful

You are probably thinking “Words can’t hurt me, if I am strong and confident enough.” Well, sure they can.

There’s a lot of power behind the words we use everyday. We often don’t even realize what the consequences are (negative or positive) to the extent that we might lose sight of the big picture. The words we use in our sentences influence the reactions we get, and in turn determine how others perceive us.

Active Listening

Active Listening

I’ve been in sales and customer service for a very long time now, and I know how important it is to be listening to what clients say. Also, when talking to my closest friends I make sure to carefully listen to them, when we are having conversations that matter.

No matter how much you may dislike it, between what someone tries to say and what you hear, there is always a gap. Language is never perfect, however, it is one of the better means you have for getting inside a person’s head and understanding where they are coming from and what they are thinking.

Dealing with difficult Colleagues

Dealing with difficult Colleagues

Over the last couple of years, I have been working quite closely with a very difficult colleague. He is stubborn, arrogant, and with almost everything acts as if he is the one who is always right. He is just impossible. Since I’ve known him for many years, I tried to just ignore the problem at first. However, it just keeps getting worse. This situation has gotten so bad that every night as I am going home, the only thing I can think of is how miserable the person must be. The people around us are also affected, since so much of our time is spent talking about the individual.

About Habits and Goals

Habits and Goals

To truly be who you want to be and live the life that you really want to live comes down to one important question:

Are your goals supported by your habits?

If yes, that’s great. Just continue with what you have been doing. If the answer is no, there are three options available to you:

Quit, change your goals or change your habits.

If you claim to want something, but spend all of your energy and time doing things that take you in a completely different direction than what you want, then it is time for you to be honest with yourself. What do you really want? More importantly, what changes are you willing to make in order to get what you want?

Change your Story

Change your story

Do you know what I’d love? I’d love to live in the kind of world where all of us stop waiting for that mystical time somewhere in the future when we finally do the things we have been craving for so long. I want us to stop saying to ourselves, “I will be happy WHEN.”

Why Reading is so important

Why Reading is so Important

If you happen to be one of the many people who don’t read on a regular basis, you probably don’t even realise what you are missing out on. There are a lot of benefits that come with reading and I just realised lately when I got a Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas. Using it on my daily commute and reading like hell, I must admit I’d never like to miss it again!

Why keeping a Journal is a great Idea

Why keeping a Journal is a great Idea

The honest truth is, you are not as effective in life as you could be. None of us are. We all miss out. Days go by without you have anything to show for it. Were you able to accomplish anything? Did you have any emotional breakthroughs? Did you go on any dates? Who can tell? The one thing you know is you making the same mistakes over and over again is something you don’t want to do. But then you do end up making them, over and over again. Do you know why you do that? Because you never get to those hidden, but important, lessons that life is trying to teach you. The only way to really learn them is through writing in a journal.
